Treasures are transportable items that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies in exchange for Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company values specific types of Treasure and has Representatives at every Outpost who accept these items for rewards.
  3. 3
Voyages offered by Outpost Representatives lead Crews on Quests to find Treasure.
  4. 4
Random Treasure can be found on Islands, floating in Barrels of Plenty or Shipwrecks, within Fort Vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
  5. 5
All Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow for easy spotting.
  6. 6
Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for payout. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so.
  7. 7
The Treasure must be dropped to regain full control.
  8. 8
Most Treasure items can be retrieved from afar with a Harpoon.
  9. 9
Smaller Treasure items can be placed inside Container Chests (which hold up to 3 items) to hide their glow, glint, or sound, making transportation easier.
  10. 10
Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  11. 11
Picking up Treasure relevant to your Trading Company Emissary will increase your Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional gains for placing it on your Ship. These increases are only given the first time a Treasure item is claimed.
Tips
  • Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that wishes to purchase them.
  • Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, Treasure items are further categorized into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants based on their source.
  • Gold Hoarders accept Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
  • Treasure Chests are locked and sold to the Gold Hoarders, who have the keys. They can be found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly across the seas. They emit a White Glint.
  • Types of Treasure Chests include: Regular, Shipwrecked (damaged, found underwater/in shipwrecks), Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (molten, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double), Valuable (specific to Encounters), and Cursed (tied to specific locations/effects, very valuable).
  • Artefacts are smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or in Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint.
