Treasures are Transportable Items that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies in exchange for Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Treasure is the main source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.

Each Trading Company values certain types of Treasure Items and has Representatives at every Outpost.

Representatives accept Treasures related to their Company for Gold/Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Outpost Representatives also offer Voyages, which lead Crews on Quests for Treasure items.

Random Treasure can be found on Islands, floating in Barrels of Plenty or Shipwrecks, or within Vaults in Forts.

Treasure can also be obtained from Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.

Every Treasure Item has a colored glint or glow for spotting from afar.

Treasure must be carried by hand to a Company Representative for a payout.

A single Pirate can hold one Treasure Item at a time and cannot fight or use Equipment/Resource Items while carrying it.

The Treasure must be dropped to regain full control.

Every Treasure Item can be retrieved with a Harpoon.

Smaller Treasure Items can be placed inside Container Chests (up to 3) to hide their glow, making transportation easier.

Treasure left on land stays until interacted with; treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes (except Trade Good Crates).

Picking up relevant Treasure as a Trading Company Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional Reputation for placing it on the Ship.

Types of Treasure Items:

Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them.
Within the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance, Treasure Items are also categorized into Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, and Ghostly variants.

Gold Hoarders Treasure:

Sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation.
Yields increased Reward, Reputation, and Emissary Value when sold as Gold Hoarder Emissaries.

Treasure Chests:

Unbreakable and locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders.
Found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly across the Sea of Thieves.
Emit a White Glint.
Types include: Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (found in The Devil's Roar, double price), Valuable (from Encounters), and Cursed (tied to specific locations/effects, very valuable).

Artefacts:

Smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults.
Types include: Regular (emit Golden Glint, share pricing tiers with Treasure Chests), Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Devil's Roar Artefacts (emit Orange Glint, more valuable), and Ashen Artefacts (from The Seabound Soul Tall Tale, sell for little).
