Merchant Alliance

Learn about the various goods accepted by the Merchant Alliance in Sea of Thieves, including Captured Animals, Explosives, Resource Crates, Trade Goods, and fragile Cargo Crates. Understand their value and how to maximize rewards.

The Merchant Alliance in Sea of Thieves accepts a variety of treasure items, including Captured Animals, Explosives (Gunpowder Barrels), Resource Crates, Trade Good Crates, and Cargo Crates. Many of these items can be sold for increased Gold and Reputation if delivered within a specific time limit, as indicated by a Pocket Watch. Selling these goods as a Merchant Alliance Emissary further boosts rewards and Emissary Value.

Captured Animals

The Merchant Alliance commissions voyages for capturing and delivering specific animals: Chickens, Pigs, and Snakes. Each animal type has four variations, affecting their value. Animals must be caught in their respective Animal Crates to be sold. Selling animals without a commission yields minimal rewards.

• Chickens: Tame and easy to capture.
• Pigs: Active and require feeding with Food to prevent hunger.
• Snakes: Wild and can poison players; can be calmed with Instruments.

Explosives

Gunpowder Barrels (Kegs) can be used as explosives or sold to the Merchant Alliance. Commissions may request Kegs for a significantly higher payout. They can be found on Fortress Islands, floating among Barrels of Plenty, in Shipwrecks, or dropped by Gunpowder Skeletons.

• Regular Gunpowder Barrels: Common, small red barrels.
• Stronghold Gunpowder Barrels: Highly explosive and more valuable, found in Fortress Vaults, from Skeleton's Orders, Shipwrecks, or held by strong Skeletons during the Fort of the Damned event. These do not receive a commission price increase.

Resource Crates

These crates can be filled with specific supply items and sold to the Merchant Alliance, especially when commissioned. The value is ten times higher if sold within a quest deadline.

• Wood Crate: Stores up to 50 Wooden Planks.
• Cannonball Crate: Stores up to 50 Cannonballs.
• Fruit Crate: Stores up to 50 Fruit items.
• Firebomb Crate: Stores up to 20 Firebombs.
• Ammo Crate: Stores up to 50 Ammunition.
• Firework Crate: Stores up to 50 Fireworks and/or Signal Flares.

Trade Good Crates

These closed crates contain valuable trade goods and can be found throughout the Sea of Thieves, often obtained from Lost Shipments voyages or found in Fortress Vaults. They offer good Gold and Reputation rewards without specific commissions or deadlines.

• Regular Trade Goods: Found all over the Sea.
• Devil's Roar Goods: Found in darker crates, more common in The Devil's Roar.
• Crate of Ancient Bone Dust: The most valuable Trade Good Crate, exclusively found in Fortress Vaults.

Cargo Crates

These open crates contain fragile trade goods that must be delivered within a time limit and in good condition. Mishandling lowers the payout. There are regular and Devil's Roar versions, with the latter being more fragile but worth twice as much.

• Crate of Luxurious Cloth: Must be kept dry to avoid becoming waterlogged.
• Crate of Rum Bottles: Must be kept away from water to prevent damage.
