Treasures are Transportable Items that can be found, carried, and sold to Trading Companies in exchange for Currencies, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Mechanics: Treasure is the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves. Each Trading Company has Representatives at every Outpost who accept specific Treasure Items for rewards. Voyages offer Quests leading to these items, but random Treasure can also be found on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within Fort vaults, or taken by enemies. Treasure items emit a colored glint for spotting. Items must be carried by hand to a Representative; a pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment while doing so. Harpoons can retrieve treasure from afar. Smaller items can be hidden in Container Chests, which hold up to 3 items. Treasure left on land remains, but treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes (except Trade Good Crates). Sailing as an Emissary grants Emissary Grade Reputation for relevant treasures picked up and put on the ship.

Types of Treasure Items: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, the Order of Souls, and the Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, Skeletal, or Ghostly variants.

Gold Hoarders Treasure: These items are sold to the Gold Hoarders for Gold and Reputation, with increased rewards for Gold Hoarder Emissaries. This category includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts.

Treasure Chests: These are locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They can be found via Treasure Maps, Riddle Maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a White Glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked (damaged, found underwater/in shipwrecks), Coral (found in Siren Shrines/Treasuries), Ashen (molten, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double), Valuable (from specific Encounters), and Cursed (tied to specific locations/effects, very valuable).

Artefacts: Smaller items found on their own, in Treasure Chests, or Fortress Vaults. They emit a Golden Glint. There are four types, sharing pricing tiers with Treasure Chests.
