Learn how to find, carry, and sell various treasures in Sea of Thieves. Discover different treasure types, their locations, and how they contribute to your Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Treasures are the primary source of Gold, Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value in Sea of Thieves.
  2. 2
Each Trading Company values specific types of Treasure Items and has representatives at every Outpost to accept them.
  3. 3
Representatives also offer Voyages, which are Quests that lead to Treasure items.
  4. 4
Random Treasure can be found on Islands, floating in Barrels of Plenty or Shipwrecks, within Fort Vaults, or taken by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, or the Kraken.
  5. 5
Treasure items emit a colored glint or glow, allowing players to spot them from afar.
  6. 6
Each Treasure item must be carried by hand to its respective Company Representative for a payout. A pirate can only hold one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while carrying it.
  7. 7
Treasures can be retrieved with a Harpoon. Smaller items can be placed in Container Chests (holding up to 3 items) to hide their glow and simplify transport.
  8. 8
Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after about 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
  9. 9
When sailing as a Trading Company Emissary, picking up relevant Treasure increases Emissary Grade Reputation, with additional gains for placing items on the ship. These increases are for the first claim of each item.
  10. 10
Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company that purchases them: Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance.
  11. 11
Within these companies, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, or Skeletal and Ghostly variants based on their source.
  12. 12
Gold Hoarders Treasure: Includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
  13. 13
Treasure Chests: Unbreakable, locked chests sold to Gold Hoarders. Found via maps, Ancient Vaults, or randomly. Emit a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed.
  14. 14
Artefacts: Smaller items found alone, in chests, or Fortress Vaults. Emit a golden glint. Types include Regular Artefacts (trinkets, containers, ornaments).
Tips
  • Use the Harpoon to retrieve treasure from a distance.
  • Store smaller treasures in Container Chests to manage inventory and hide their glow.
  • Pay attention to the colored glint to identify treasure types from afar.
  • Selling treasure relevant to your current Emissary Trading Company provides bonus Reputation and Emissary Value.
