Learn how to find, carry, and sell various types of treasure in Sea of Thieves. Discover different treasure types, their locations, and how they contribute to your Gold, Reputation, and Emissary Value.
Walkthrough
- 1Finding Treasure: Treasure can be found beached on islands, floating in barrels or shipwrecks, within vaults in forts, or dropped by enemies like Skeleton Ships, Megalodons, and the Kraken. Each treasure item emits a colored glint or glow to help players spot them.
- 2Carrying Treasure: Treasure items must be carried by hand to their respective Company Representative. A pirate can only carry one item at a time and cannot use equipment or resources while doing so. The treasure must be dropped to regain full control. Harpoons can be used to retrieve treasure from a distance. Smaller items can be stored in Container Chests, which hold up to 3 items and hide their glow.
- 3Treasure Lifespan: Treasure left on land remains until interacted with. Treasure dropped in water sinks after approximately 5 minutes, except for Trade Good Crates which float longer.
- 4Emissary Value: Sailing as a Trading Company Emissary and picking up relevant treasure grants Emissary Grade Reputation. Additional Reputation is given when the treasure is put on the ship. These increases are granted only on the first claim of a treasure item.
- 5Trading Companies: Each Trading Company values specific types of treasure. Representatives at every Outpost accept these treasures for Gold/Doubloons, Reputation, and Emissary Value. They also offer Voyages that lead to treasure.
- 6Types of Treasure: Treasure items are categorized by the Trading Company they are sold to. The three main companies are the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance. Within these, treasures can be Regular, Ashen, Stronghold, or Skeletal and Ghostly variants.
- 7Gold Hoarders Treasure: This category includes Treasure Chests and Artefacts.
- 8Treasure Chests: These are locked chests sold to the Gold Hoarders. They can be found via maps, in Ancient Vaults, or randomly. They emit a white glint. Types include Regular, Shipwrecked, Coral, Ashen, Valuable, and Cursed Treasure Chests. Ashen chests, found in The Devil's Roar, sell for double.
- 9Artefacts: Smaller items found on their own, in chests, or in fortress vaults. They emit a golden glint and include trinkets, containers, and ornaments made of valuable metals and gems.
