Childhood

Sabina's story begins twenty years before the main adventure. She was traveling with her family in a caravan when they were attacked. Her father was killed by a captain of the Aurora Watch, who then ordered his men to kill everyone and take valuables. Sabina's mother was also killed. She escaped into the swamp with her baby moorbounder, Dax, witnessing the massacre of her family and friends.

Alone and hungry, she was found by a half-elf named Corvan, a traveling librarian from the Cobalt Soul. Corvan took her to Asarius, explaining she had a fever from a swamp wound he'd treated. This wound would remain hot for two decades. Corvan gave her a periapt to help suppress diseases and asked her to sing a song in return for his help, as he was collecting stories.

Outskirts of Jigow

Later, Sabina met Xarria, Kaeko, Dorlen, and Valas. Their travels led them to Jigow, a settlement in northern Xhorhas. While preparing to enter Jigow, the group discussed their plans. Kaeko was excited about the Festival of Merit, hoping to earn money. Dorlen was eager to try everything Jigow had to offer. Sabina, however, was concerned about the crowds, but Kaeko assured her that she and Dax would help her through it.

A Fateful Competition

Upon arriving in Jigow's Jumble district, the party encountered a riddle contest. Dorlen was enthusiastic, while Kaeko was more interested in entertaining the crowd for coin. Sabina was open to Kaeko's idea. Valas suggested they enter as many contests as possible to win the grand prize of one hundred gold pieces.

They participated in a riddle contest presided over by an elderly goblin. After paying six silver pieces, they approached a table with a box and four keys. Kaeko distracted competitors while Dorlen, Sabina, and Xarria deduced the correct key based on clues. Dorlen opened the box, but Xarria was zapped when she tried the wrong key.

Meanwhile, Kaeko and Valas went for drinks. Dorlen, Sabina, and Xarria moved on to a riddle involving a star map. They correctly identified the twin moons of Exandria, Catha and Ruidus. The goblin ruled that they had to answer all three riddles since they were helping each other. They met Galsariad, a drow, who eventually offered his assistance.

The final riddle involved a row of seven bottles. Dorlen and Xarria narrowed down the choices, and Xarria drank the fifth bottle, winning the contest. The party decided to give the Medal of Wit to Xarria. Using a feather Sabina had taken from Kaeko's cloak, Dax found Kaeko and Valas. The goblin awarded Kaeko the Medal of Muscle. Dorlen then eagerly pulled Sabina towards another contest.
