Follow our comprehensive walkthrough for 'A Frosty Welcome' in The Sinking City, guiding you through evidence collection on the Charon ship and optional investigations.
Walkthrough
- 1Charon Ship Investigation: This is your first investigation location. Collect the following key evidence: your belongings on the table, the Letter from J. van der Berg (found in the briefcase), the Camera, and your Pistol. To collect the pistol, pick it up, rotate it until an eyeball symbol appears on the handle, and press X to examine. You will also receive 6 .38 pistol rounds.
- 2Additional Evidence on Ship: Use your camera to take a picture of the mounted fish on the wall (Photo of a trophy plate). Examine the flyer on the desk to the left of your belongings (Flyer).
- 3Lootables: Search the locker to the right of the desk for ammunition and crafting materials. Lootable contents are randomized and can be reset by leaving and returning to the area.
- 4Exit the Boat: After collecting evidence, climb onto the dock by pressing Triangle.
- 5Conversation with Johannes van der Berg: You will automatically start a conversation. To advance the game, select the dialogue options: "About my problem.", "Where is Robert Throgmorton?", "I need somewhere to stay.", "How do I get to Devil's Reef?", and "Goodbye.". Choosing "I need somewhere to stay" progresses the game and locks out other dialogue branches.
- 6Find Robert Throgmorton: Proceed north along the pier to a sign. Turn right towards the exit and go up the stairs.
- 7Conversation with Robert Throgmorton: To advance the game, select: "What happened to your son?", "Who are the Innsmouthers?", "What do you know about the visions?", "I can try to find Albert.", "Tell me more about the case.", and "I'll be going.".
Optional Investigation: Lifeboat Titania
- Accessing the Lifeboat: Return to the sign that pointed to the exit. Go left down a path, then left towards the sea. The lifeboat is beyond police barricades.
- Evidence in Lifeboat: Inspect the lifeboat name (TITANIA). Examine the Diving Helmet (rotate and search the front faceplate). Find Albert Throgmorton's will on one of the seats. You may need to climb inside the lifeboat (Triangle) to collect some evidence. Be aware that looking at the diving helmet will slowly drain your sanity.
- Reward for Optional Investigation: Completing this optional investigation provides an extra 140 XP and unlocks an additional conversation with Robert Throgmorton after returning his son's will.
Tips
- If you have the Necronomicon Edition or DLC, you receive a Submachine Gun and 30 .45 ABP rounds. Use this ammo sparingly as it replenishes slowly.

- To reload your gun, equip it via the weapon wheel (hold L1) and press Square.
- Lootable objects can be repeatedly searched for ammunition and crafting materials.
- The Titania Lifeboat is an optional investigation location. None of the evidence found here is required for the main casebook, but it offers XP and further dialogue options.
- XP for collecting all evidence on the Charon ship.
- Additional XP for completing the optional Titania Lifeboat investigation.
- Unlocks additional dialogue with Robert Throgmorton upon returning Albert's will.
