Hey there! So, you've started exploring Oakmont and are probably running into some... unpleasantness. These things are called 'Wylebeasts,' and they're basically the game's main baddies that showed up after the Flood. Robert Throgmorton himself warned Charles W. Reed about them, saying they're aggressive but thankfully not immune to gunfire. His advice? Avoid them if you can, and if you can't, be ready to fight. These creatures pop out of the ground and, when you defeat them, they just dissolve into slime. Pretty gross, right? Professor Westerbrook has been studying them, and you can even help him out by completing the Field Research quest. He's given them more formal names, and there are a few types you'll need to watch out for: ### The Main Types: * Stygians: These are usually the first ones you'll encounter. They look like human arms in a spider-like formation, standing on big hands. While some aren't aggressive, they often hang out in groups with bigger monsters, so don't underestimate them. * Lethians: These look like transformed former residents of Oakmont. They've got this unsettling split head and they'll vomit this nasty fluid at you. Best to keep your distance and aim for the head if you can, while dodging their projectiles. * Cocitians: These are like the upper half of a human torso with a giant mouth. They seem to have adapted to eating human meat and will lunge at you. The good news is, after they lunge, they're vulnerable for a few seconds before they get back up. There are red and green varieties. * Acheronians: These are the biggest and toughest wylebeasts you'll face. They look like a horrifying mashup of several bodies, and they're both tall and powerful. ### Other Wylebeasts: These pop up less often, but they're still dangerous: * Tentacles: You'll find these underwater or when your insanity gets really high. They're like octopus tentacles with a mouth, and they'll lash out when you get close. * Man-eating eels: We don't have too much info on these yet, but the name says it all. Be careful around water! * Deep sea creature: This one's more of an artistic concept for now, but it hints at even bigger horrors lurking in the depths. Remember, these creatures are a major part of the challenge in Oakmont. Keep your wits about you, your weapons loaded, and you'll get through it!
