Navigate the complexities of 'A Delicate Matter' in The Sinking City 2. This guide provides step-by-step instructions, tips, and crucial details to help you progress through the game.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Begin by collecting your belongings on the table in front of you on the ship. This includes your Letter from J. van der Berg (obtained by taking the briefcase), your Camera, and your Pistol. To collect the pistol, pick it up, rotate it until the 'eyeball' symbol appears on the handle, and press X to examine it. You will also receive 6 .38 pistol rounds. Ensure your gun is reloaded before attempting to fire.
  2. 2
Collect additional evidence: take a photo of the Photo of a trophy plate (a strange fish mounted on the wall) using your camera, and examine the Flyer on the desk to the left of your belongings.
  3. 3
Loot the locker to the right of the desk for ammunition and crafting materials. Lootable objects can be reset by leaving and returning to the area.
  4. 4
Exit the boat by climbing onto the dock to your right using the Triangle button.
  5. 5
Speak with Johannes van der Berg. To advance the game, select the dialogue options: "About my problem.", "Where is Robert Throgmorton?", "I need somewhere to stay.", "How do I get to Devil's Reef?", and finally, "Goodbye.". Be aware that choosing these options will lock out other conversational branches.
  6. 6
Proceed north along the pier and turn right at the sign pointing to the bar and exit.
  7. 7
Climb the stairs to automatically begin a conversation with Robert Throgmorton. To advance the game, select the dialogue options: "What happened to your son?", "Who are the Innsmouthers?", "What do you know about the visions?", "I can try to find Albert.", "Tell me more about the case.", and finally, "I'll be going.". Other dialogue options are optional.
  8. 8
Optional Investigation: Lifeboat Titania: Return to the sign and go left down a path, then left towards the sea. The lifeboat is beyond police barricades. This investigation is not required for casebook progression but offers extra XP and an additional conversation with Robert Throgmorton.
  9. 9
Within the Lifeboat Titania, inspect the TITANIA nameplate, examine the Diving Helmet (rotate it and look at the front faceplate; prolonged exposure drains sanity), and find Albert Throgmorton's will on a seat. Climb inside the lifeboat using Triangle to access some evidence.
  10. 10
After finding the will, return to Robert Throgmorton to unlock an optional conversation.
Tips
  • If you own the Necronomicon Edition or DLC, you receive a Submachine Gun and 30 .45 ABP rounds. Use this ammo sparingly as it depletes quickly.
  • Consider investing a Skill Point into the 'Absolute Clarity' Mind skill for a 5% XP bonus.
  • Lootable objects can be repeatedly looted by leaving and returning to the area.
  • The Diving Helmet in the optional lifeboat investigation can drain your sanity if held for too long.
  • Completion of the main objectives for 'A Delicate Matter'.
  • Potential for additional XP and dialogue from completing the optional Lifeboat Titania investigation.
