Alright, so you've picked up the Mystic Tomes side case, likely from that letter in your room at the Devil's Reef Hotel. This one's a bit of a scavenger hunt for some arcane books. One of the first ones you might go for is the Bewitched Tome.

Starting The Case

You get this case by reading a letter called A Plea for Help, which you'll find in your hotel room. It's available pretty early on, right after you wake up in the Devil's Reef Hotel during the "Lost at Sea" main case. The letter is on the desk, addressed to Charles Reed.

The Whereabouts of the Research Notes

Before you go hunting for the books themselves, you need to find the collector's research notes. They're all in the hotel room across the hall from yours, the one that belonged to the book collector. Here's where you'll find them:

• Tome in the ruins and Book in the bank: On the bulletin board near the entrance.
• The Hidden Book: On the chair facing the boarded-up window.
• Waiting Book: On the floor next to the mattress.

• Bewitched tome: On the desk.

Finding the Mystic Tomes

Bewitched Tome

The clue for this one talks about witches, an apple tree, and a cider mill. It mentions a confession from a witch who said the devil gave her a book with words of power. This book apparently hides itself and waits for the witches to return. The confession says the witch lived in eastern Reed Heights, north of the intersection of Communion Road and Museum Avenue. That's where you'll need to go.

Head to eastern Reed Heights, way up the northernmost part of Communion Road. You'll find the book near the rusted remains of a gray coupe, north of Museum Avenue. Now, here's the tricky part: next to the car, you'll see what looks like a woman's corpse. Don't be fooled, it's actually part of a gargantuan abomination guarding the tome. This area is littered with explosive barrels. The best strategy here is to let the creature roar, then run away from it to create some distance. Once you've got space, target those explosive barrels. A few good hits from the barrels will take down the abomination. After you defeat it, the tome will appear floating in the air near the car, surrounded by mystic symbols. Grab it to complete this part!

The Hidden Book

This next clue is about a book stolen from the Throgmorton museum and bought by a surgeon who later died in his house after the Flood. You'll need to sneak into his place to find it. The notes say you checked his place, but in vain. This implies the book isn't actually in the surgeon's house, but the clue is still useful for finding its general location.
